Safety

If an emergency happens while you are at the airport, we have accessible options available to assist you and keep you safe.

What you’ll find in the Terminals

The emergency buttons are linked to our central emergency response centre and are available in the following places:

  • All accessible washrooms.
  • Every elevator.
  • Courtesy phones in Terminals and parking garages.
  • On every car of the train between Terminals (Terminal Link).
  • All escalators and moving sidewalks.

If an evacuation is needed

  • We make announcements in audio and visual formats. There are also strobe lights in key locations to alert passengers who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • To help people with mobility issues leave safely, we use EVAC-CHAIRS (stair chairs) that let staff assist someone down stairs during an emergency.
  • If you’re boarding or disembarking an aircraft and there is no passenger boarding bridge, we use a Medical Lift (Ambulift) for stretchers, and AVI-Ramps for passengers needing wheelchair assistance.
  • We have visual translation services with American Sign Language accessible to our airport first responders to assist passengers who are deaf or hard of hearing.
