WestJet is resuming flights out of Toronto Pearson this afternoon. Passengers scheduled to fly with WestJet are advised to check their flight status and contact the airline directly for the latest information before coming to the airport.

Idea 3: Increase downwind speed

The speed of the downwind portion of the arrival flight path was changed from 200 knots to 210 knots via an amendment to the Canada Air Pilot.

The Canada Air Pilot is an aeronautical publication used by pilots that includes all flight procedures for Toronto Pearson. 

The downwind is when an aircraft flies by the airport parallel to, but in the opposite direction of, the landing runway.

This change in speed has the potential to reduce noise in some areas of the city by decreasing the need for flap use by pilots of larger aircraft needing to slow their airspeed as they approach the airport.
