Underway

Accelerator

The first program under Pearson LIFT has begun and we are planning to have shovels in the ground in 2025. It will deliver vital upgrades and revitalization of our airport assets, aiming to improve our on-time performance, reduce emissions, mitigate climate-change impacts and accommodate near-term passenger growth.

Accelerator will…

Meet rising demand

  • An interim terminal facility to accommodate passenger growth expected in the near term
  • Expansion of our cargo processing capacity

Reduce emissions and protect against climate change

  • Add more solar panels to boost clean energy generation
  • Install low-emission heating and cooling systems
  • Add more electric vehicle charging stations for passengers and airside operations
  • Invest in water management to safeguard the airfield from potential rising water levels

Upgrade our airfield and improve on-time performance

  • New high-speed taxiways that enhance operational flexibility and efficiency, reducing the risk of disruptions and delays
  • Modernized electrical systems and upgraded, energy-efficient lighting
  • Runway restoration to maintain safe, efficient operations
  • New aircraft parking spaces to support resilient operations and our growth during construction

What’s on the horizon

In the coming years, we plan to begin construction on additional programs — Gateway and T1/T3 Revitalization — that will allow us to support long-term passenger growth and deliver a world-class customer and employee experience. We are currently working with our airport partners to advance planning for this work.

On the horizon

Gateway: Making room to grow

Aerial view of a large, busy airport terminal with numerous airplanes parked at various gates. The terminal features multiple jet bridges connecting to the aircraft. Various service vehicles and equipment are visible on the tarmac, and the surrounding runways and taxiways are visible in the background.

We expect to see 65 million annual passengers per year by the early 2030s - an increase from about 45 million annual passengers today. To prepare for this growth, we are evaluating options for expanding our terminal facilities.

On the horizon

T1/T3 Revitalization: Elevating the passenger experience and optimizing capacity

Interior view of a Toronto Pearson terminal with high ceilings and large windows allowing natural light to fill the space. In the center, there is a large, sculptural installation with curved, black structures. Surrounding the central installation are various high-end retail stores, including Michael Kors and Longchamp. Passengers are seen walking through the terminal, giving the space a lively atmosphere.

We plan to invest in Terminals 1 and 3 with modernized retail, amenities and passenger processing spaces, increased digitalization of the passenger journey, renewal of critical assets and new employee areas. Additionally, we will invest in optimizing parking facilities and groundside access, ensuring a smoother arrival and departure experience.
