Accessibility services for passengers who are deaf or hard-of-hearing

Learn about the accessibility services and support available to passengers who are deaf or hard of hearing at Pearson.

September 21–27 is International Week of Deaf People, a time to recognize the Deaf community and raise awareness of the importance of accessibility and inclusion.

At Pearson, we offer a range of services to support passengers who are deaf or hard-of-hearing, including hearing loops, Aira ASL and LanguageLine apps for live video sign language interpretation (please note that Aira ASL is currently in pilot phase) and QR codes that, when scanned, deliver flight updates straight to a user’s phone or email.

Pearson also has visual fire alarms to reduce passengers’ reliance on auditory signals. Lastly, we offer the Sunflower Lanyard for non-visible disabilities and the Travel Rehearsal Program for future travellers to become familiar with the airport prior to their journey.

These services are part of our commitment to helping passengers access the information and support they need throughout their journey.

We’re also recognizing the Pearson employees who help make travel more accessible every day. Our Passenger Service Representatives are there to support passengers, including those who use sign language, to communicate.
