Three Inuksuit

Inuksuit are traditionally used by Inuit people for navigation, to mark sacred places or to define a good hunting or fishing spot. The Three Inuksuit welcoming departing passengers in Terminal 1 were created by the highly respected Inuit artist Kiakshuk.

Kiakshuk is recognized among the first to join the internationally-renown Cape Dorset drawing and printmaking program in Kinngait, Nunavut during the 1960s. His personal experiences with hunting, animals, family and camp life, shamans and spirit creatures were the subject of his many artworks.
