Airside Safety Week On-site Activities

On-site activities at this year’s Airside Safety Week are fun and engaging opportunities to test our skills and refresh our knowledge of aviation safety. In addition to learning and enjoying these events with your coworkers, participants have the chance to win amazing cash prizes!

Most of our in-person programming requires preregistration. Make sure to sign up before the deadlines pass!

ASO Ride Along

When: Daily from September 16 to 20.

Where: To be arranged after registration.

What: This is an opportunity to accompany an Aviation Service Officer (ASO) in their office duty truck as they respond to accidents, incidents and aviation safety and regulatory compliance concerns. This unique one-on-one experience will allow you to glimpse the crucial work ASOs do to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone airside.

Wildlife Control Officer Site Visit

When: Daily, September 16 to 20.

Where: To be arranged after registration.

What: Toronto Pearson has the largest wildlife management program in Canada. We take a proactive approach to managing wildlife, aided by our many animal teammates who live at the airport, such as our eagle, Ivan. If you would like to learn more about how wildlife is managed at Pearson, register to have a Wildlife Control Officer and one of the incredible birds of prey on their team visit your place of work.

Safety Road-eo

When: Monday, September 16, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Where: Exact location will be shared after registration.

What: The annual Airside Safety Week Road-eo is back! This driving challenge is an exhilarating opportunity to test your airside driving skills with an obstacle course and a chance to win an amazing cash prize. This activity is meant to showcase the challenges that ramp agents face on a daily basis while servicing aircraft. A valid provincial driver license and an Airside Vehicle Operator’s Permit is required to participate in the Road-eo, but those who don’t compete are welcome to watch and cheer on our colleagues.

Safety Fair – Vehicle and Equipment Display

When: Monday, September 16 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Where: Terminal 3 Satellite, north side apron.

What: Come sit in a crash truck and explore a fascinating display of ground service equipment showcasing the latest safety features and functionalities that keep our airport running smoothly. This event highlights the critical roles that our equipment plays in our daily operations and offers the chance to discover a behind-the-scenes understanding of airside safety.  All Toronto Pearson airport workers with airside access are welcome to attend this display and learn about the equipment and vehicles that help us do our jobs safely!

How: No registration is required for this event.

Runway and Apron Safety Forum

When: Wednesday, September 18.

Where: Exact location and time will be shared with participants after registration.

What: In collaboration with our safety partner, Nav Canada, we are holding a discussion forum with the pilot community and ground handlers. This forum will be an opportunity for these groups to share their knowledge and experience and bring forward any concerns related to runway incursions and aircraft safety on the apron.

How: This event is by invitation only and participants must pre-register.

Falcon Environmental Wildlife Facility Tour

When: Thursday, September 19, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: Exact location will be shared with participants after registration. What: Join us for a tour of the Falcon Environmental Wildlife Facilities where you will learn about bird strike and meet our falcon teammates who help prevent it. Participants will have the special opportunity to interact with these majestic birds, ask questions and take pictures!

Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Walk

When: Friday September 20, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Where: Terminal 1, Terminal 3 and Cargo West apron

What: This is a chance for us to stretch our legs and bring awareness to the dangers of foreign object debris (FOD). In order to help us keep the airside tidy, groups of participants will collect FOD in different locations across the airport. Prizes will be awarded for the most FOD collected as well as to the individual who finds the golden egg! Make sure to bring your safety vest and safety boots as you will be walking on the apron.
