Update on October airside construction

Additional maintenance activities required to ensure continued safe airport operations began in mid-September. The activities primarily consist of adjusting the Runway 23 threshold, which is the useable space on the runway where planes can land and takeoff.

The GTAA has worked closely with its many partners to develop a construction/maintenance plan where the majority of the work will take place in the overnight period when Runway 05/23 is already closed due to the construction of the Bombardier facility.

Due to the nature of the last phase of this work (line and marking painting), the runway needs to be closed for five full days. This work is scheduled to take place between October 3 and 7, 2021, with the potential of these days changing depending on weather.

Daytime Operations from 6:30 am to midnight

As a result of this five-day closure of Runway 05/23, most traffic will move to one of our other east/west runways—Runway 06L/24R or 06R/24—in combination with arrivals on Runway 15L/R or departures on Runway 33R/L. These runways are already in regular use; however the closure of 05/23 may result in an increase of usage and traffic.

Residents should be aware that during this five-day closure of Runway 05/23 there is a high likelihood of North/South runway usage for arrivals and departures using Runways 15L and 15R or 33L and 33R, particularly during peak traffic hours of the day. The frequency of North/South operations depends on other runway capacity and traffic volumes.
