While on the surface, airports are about planes and passengers, behind the scenes there are hundreds of other functions that help keep people moving to their destinations. At Toronto Pearson, that means there are technology experts, manufacturers, service providers and vendors collaborating with our team to bring critical airport projects to life.
In 2021, the GTAA’s Information Technology & Airport Development group, through the collaboration of our service providers and technology partners, created an enhanced connection area for passengers in Terminal 1 including kiosk and e-gate technology solutions, touchless processing and queue management for connecting international passengers, optimized traffic flow and curbside vehicle congestion at both Terminals, and updated critical IT infrastructure. These collaborative teams also supported work to deploy important security improvements including drone detection and improvements to the baggage system including video encode and new lateral displays to streamline and optimize baggage processes.
Completing these critical passenger and process improvements during a global pandemic at Canada’s largest airport is reliant on the support of many dedicated collaborators including Brock Solutions, Wipro Canada, Hartwell SSI, Genetec, Embross, Materna, Xovis, Activu and Black & McDonaldd who brought expertise and innovative solutions. Thank you to each of these valued partners for their unique and world-class contributions.
