From September 26 to December 20, Pearson is presenting ਅਲਮਾਰੀ (Almirah) by Vancouver-based artist Simranpreet Anand as part of the Toronto Biennial of Art’s fourth edition, Things Fall Apart.
The large-scale installation brings together photography, textile traditions and family memories. Anand recreates Punjabi dhurrie flatweaving patterns using close-up photographs of clothing worn by her mother, sisters and herself over decades of family and cultural celebrations.
As you make your way through the airport, take a moment to look closely at the work and notice how light passes through its patterns, creating an atmospheric glow along the corridor. The Toronto Biennial of Art is free to experience in Terminal 1’s Departures Transfer Concourse on Level 3 at Pearson, as well as across 13+ exhibition sites throughout Toronto.
