The win is due to our “20/2020” Sustainability Strategy, which began in 2009. The goal was to reduce our Greenhouse Gas emissions (GHG) by 20% (from 2006 levels) by 2020, which we not only achieved, but surpassed.
Our emissions have dropped approximately 60%, with half being attributed to our operational changes and innovations, such as providing pre-conditioned air and ground power to aircraft to prevent the use of jet fuel while parked at the gate and substituting LEDs for inefficient incandescent and fluorescent lighting, and the other half coming from the cleaning of the provincial power supply.
