Technology and innovation

From trialing new solutions to enhancing existing policies and processes, we’re constantly looking at new ways to make your airport experience healthier.

The Government of Canada requires all international travellers to take a COVID-19 test upon arrival. To learn more, visit our COVID-19 testing section.

We’ve installed UV-C light cleaning units on the handrails of selected escalators and moving walkways to help reduce the spread of potentially harmful microorganisms.

We’re trialing new technology that makes elevators touchless, so that you can operate them with your smartphone. Use Bluetooth-enabled elevators by scanning the QR code to download the control app.

We have deployed COVID Safety Alert devices to frontline GTAA staff, with the aim of helping to ensure that physical distancing guidelines are followed and facilitating contact tracing.

We’ve installed upgraded MERV-13 filters in our HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) system.

Autonomous floor cleaners with UV-C light technology are in operation throughout the terminal to clean and disinfect floor surfaces.

We have partnered with BlueDot to monitor and manage risk from COVID-19 and other infectious diseases. The Toronto-based technology firm’s outbreak risk software acts as an early warning system, allowing the airport community to be proactive in mitigating exposure to infectious diseases that threaten human health, security, and prosperity.

We’ve installed dozens of CleanSlateUV units throughout the airport that sanitize smartphones and other small electronic devices for free.

We’ve introduced Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) vending machines to our terminals to provide easy access to items such as face masks, hand sanitizer and wipes. The machines are cashless and can be found in six convenient locations pre-security (four in Terminal 1 and two in Terminal 3).

We’ve installed UV-C light arrays in select air handling units at the airport. Combined with our upgraded air filters, this innovative technology adds a new layer of defense against potentially harmful pathogens.

To make your experience easier, touchless self-serve check-in kiosks and automated baggage drops are available in both terminals, which allow you to move quickly and seamlessly from the curb to security.

Contactless Priority lines will be available in July, enabling Priority passengers to quickly scan their documents and proceed through check-in without meeting with an airline representative for document verification.

Low-touch kiosks in the customs hall reduce the need to use common surfaces, allowing you to scan your travel documents and complete your declaration faster, with the help of the ArriveCAN mobile app.

Touchless NEXUS kiosks help to make your travel journey faster, by allowing you to scan documents and verify your identity automatically before proceeding onward.
