Possible temporary relocation for engine run-ups
An engine run-up is a procedure conducted by airline maintenance staff to check an aircraft’s engines for performance. They are an integral part of the safety check, but they do cause a significant amount of noise.
Due to the location of some of the 2020 Airside Maintenance Projects, some of the preferred engine run-up locations may not be available. These areas were preferred because they reduced noise disruption caused by this safety check.
As a result, engine run-ups may temporarily occur in areas that are normally restricted during nighttime hours, which may impact residents living close to the airfield. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding in advance.

East and West of the airport:
East: Etobicoke North, Etobicoke Centre, Humber River Black Creek, York Centre, Willowdale, Don Valley North, Markham Thornhill
West: Mississauga Malton, Mississauga East-Cooksville, Mississauga-Erin Mills, Milton
Residents of the areas east and west of the airport may feel changes in the way they experience aircraft activity around their homes. This will be related to the work on Runways 05/23 and 15L/33R.
Because 05/23 will be temporarily shortened, there will be an increased usage of maintenance contingency preferential Runways 06L and 24R (east/west), expected between 12:00 am to 6:30 am.
Work on 15L/33R is expected to result in increased usage of maintenance contingency preferential Runways during the nighttime hours of 12:00 am to 6:30 am. The anticipated nighttime Runway configurations are as follows:
- Land 06L / Depart 33L
- Land 15R / Depart 24R
- Land and depart 23 or 05
North and South of the airport
North: Brampton East, Brampton Centre, Brampton North, Mississauga-Malton
South: Etobicoke Centre, Etobicoke Lakeshore, Mississauga East-Cooksville
The communities to the north and south of the airport should be prepared for the possibility of changes in their experience of aircraft activity related to work on Taxiway H, Runway 15L/33R.
Runway 05/23 will be temporarily shortened while work is conducted. This could result in an increased usage of north/south Runway 15L and 33R for one-off departures of large aircraft requiring extra runway length.
At night, work on 15L/33R is expected to result in increased usage of maintenance contingency preferential runways during the nighttime hours of 12:00 am to 6:30 am. The anticipated nighttime runway configurations that could affect communities to the north or south are as follows:
- Land 06L / Depart 33L
- Land 15R / Depart 24R
