Press release

August 30, 2018 The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA), in partnership with the City of Mississauga, has opened “Final Approach, Danville Terminal”, an aviation-themed park space. The space was named and designed with input from the community and pays tribute to the longstanding history of aviation in the city.

“The Greater Toronto Airports Authority is committed to long-term sustainability, not just for Toronto Pearson, but also for the neighbourhoods within which it operates,” said Howard Eng, President and CEO of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority. “We are proud to invest in spaces like Danville Park because, much like the airport, they provide opportunities for friends, families and communities to connect.”

As part of revitalization of Danville Park, the GTAA engaged Mississauga residents and airport employees to help choose a name and design theme, ensuring the final space was a reflection of the community. In total, nearly 1,250 people participated in the process and the result is a space that pays tribute to the history of aviation in Mississauga and the community that now thrives as a neighbour to the airport.

Danville Terminal sits 25 metres above the surrounding area, providing park goers with the opportunity to see planes travelling to and from the airport. The design features of the park include a sleek overhead airplane, a painted runway, informational plaques and a windsock that demonstrates wind speed and its direction. It also features limestone, donated by the GTAA, from the former Avro Arrow building, an important piece of Canadian aviation history.

Toronto Pearson is proud to support its neighbouring communities, many of which are home to the 50,000 people who work at the airport. This partnership with the City of Mississauga represents one of the many ways that Toronto Pearson connects with and gives back to the community.
