Washroom cleaning and disinfecting measures at Pearson

Our washrooms are high-traffic areas, and since the beginning of the pandemic, we’ve enhanced our cleaning and hygiene practices.

This includes having staff attend the washrooms every two hours to clean toilets and urinals, floors, sinks, counters, taps and fixtures, soap and paper towel dispensers, handles, knobs and other high touch areas. Our staff use a non-chemical oxidizer disinfecting solution that is safe, non-toxic and kills up to 99.999% of germs for all areas, plus a hydrogen peroxide solution to clean frequently touched areas.

We also deep clean our washrooms from floor to ceiling using a touchless, spray-and-vacuum indoor pressure washing machine that removes soil and contaminants from all crevices and surfaces. This method is proven to be 60 times more effective at removing bacteria than traditional cleaning processes and reduces the possibility of contamination.

All of our cleaning solutions are approved by Health Canada.

We’re proud of our increased focus to keep passengers safe while at Toronto Pearson, and we recently won the “Best hygiene measures in North America” award from Airports Council International, the global trade representative of the world’s airports. This is a new award category in their annual Airport Service Quality program that was introduced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The win comes largely as a result of our Healthy Airport program
