"My name is Kathryn and I am the Manager of Community Outreach at the GTAA. It’s been 5 years to the day since I first joined the organization, and I am so proud to be part of the team.
At Toronto Pearson, we want to have positive impact on the communities we serve, to be regarded as a good corporate citizen, and a great neighbour. In my capacity, I have the great pleasure of making meaningful connections with various community groups and organizations across the region. Whether it’s supporting community-building initiatives or participating in local celebrations, events, farmers’ markets and even parades, I’m always looking for ways we can strengthen our relationships with our neighbours in their communities.
Conversations with our community prior to COVID were mostly done face-to-face with individuals and groups at community hubs and centres or at open houses. However, with the onset of the pandemic, we had to quickly rethink how we met with the public. Last April, we realized who could use our help: parents with kids at home learning virtually. And that’s when the Pearson Airport Explorers Club, an online program for kids in grades 3 through 8 to learn about all things aviation, was created. The club has been very successful, so much so that it was recognized in 2020 by ACI North America as the Best Education and Outreach Program. There are over 700 kids signed up today, and we continue to hold camps every month. I’m so proud of all the hard work that has been put into the program and we’re thrilled to be supporting the next generation of aviation enthusiasts."
