"As an Environmental Technician, my job is to monitor the air and water quality at the airport, including indoor and outdoor air quality. Ambient air quality is always a point of focus, being at an airport, but in this new normal, indoor air quality has never been more critical.
The GTAA made the decision to bring two ambient air quality monitoring stations inside the terminals to monitor the indoor air quality. This helps maintain clean, pollution-free air in our buildings to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for passengers and employees. These stations monitor pollutants such as Carbon Monoxide (CO), Particulate matter (PM 10 and PM2.5), Nitrous Oxide (NOX), sulphur oxide (SO2) Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and Formaldehyde, and are continuously monitored and running 24/7. My job is to maintain and calibrate the stations, and make sure the information collected is accurate. The information from these units is being used to determine the existing quality of air and to identify areas for improvement.
