Meet Abdi, Lead Baggage Cart Associate with our cleaning partner, Dexterra

Abdi is responsible for assigning Dexterra staff throughout the airport at key locations to ensure baggage carts are readily available for passengers as they need them. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Abdi and his team also sanitize carts in accordance with Healthy Airport protocols. From arrivals and departures locations to the baggage halls and even the parking garages, you can thank Abdi and his team for ensuring that when you need a cart, they’re available and clean.

“Every day is different,” says Abdi. “As part of my job, I’m interpreting the information we receive from the airlines to determine passenger movements. From there it’s about allocating the appropriate resources to ensure we’re maintaining our Healthy Airport commitment for the collection and cleaning of baggage carts.

“Being on the front lines, there always an opportunity to go outside your job description to help passengers directly—this is one of the most rewarding parts of the job, and after 20 years working in the world of airports, it never gets old,” Abdi adds. “Sometimes we’re giving passengers directions, and sometimes I’m even able to speak Somalian to passengers who don’t speak English.

“At the end of the day, we’re people helping people—it’s that simple,” Abdi says. “When you break it down like that, it’s easy to be caring and go beyond expectations. I genuinely believe that the best thing we can do as humans is help each other.”

Thanks for everything you do, Abdi!
