Press release

TORONTO, CANADA –Toronto Pearson welcomed more than 2,200 community members onto Runway 06R-24L, one of the busiest in Canada, to participate in the 12th Annual Runway Run. This yearly event is a fun, one-of-a-kind 5K run and 2K walk raising funds for Propeller Project, Pearson’s signature community investment program. This year, the event raised over $100,000 for local non-profit organizations working to provide community programs and employment support in neighbourhoods around the airport.

“The Runway Run was started by employees to share their love of the airport, and has grown to become a signature event that continues to bring people back each year,” said Robyn Connelly, Director, Community Relations, at the Greater Toronto Airports Authority. “Because of the dedication of participants, we’ve been able to raise over one million dollars in 12 years from this event alone. We are grateful to our sponsors, including our title sponsor Air Canada, our volunteers and participants who have joined together to make the 2019 event a success for the continued benefit of the community.”

Thousands took part in the event for the chance to run or walk alongside aircraft and experience incredible views from the unique vantage point of the runway, which measures 9,000 feet by 200 feet and was sectioned off in a 5K loop for the event. Throughout the morning, participants experienced the people, equipment and animals that contribute to the safe operation of the airport.

Now in it’s 12th year, the Runway Run has helped to raise more than one million dollars for Propeller Project partner organizations including ACCES Employment, NPower Canada and MABELLEarts. These organizations focus on helping area residents get the skills, connections and opportunities they need to gain meaningful employment. In 2018 alone, Pearson donated $1.02 million to 24 local, non-profit organizations in Toronto, Mississauga and Brampton through Propeller Project

This event would not be possible without the generous support of our 2k walk event sponsor, Air Canada, and other event sponsors, including Genesis, OTG, FedEx, WestJet, CIBC, Sheraton Gateway, NAV CANADA, HMS Host, Benson Percival, Black & McDonald, Goodlife Fitness, Precise Park Link, Paladin Security and ASP Security Services.
