REGISTRATION
Q: Is there an admission fee?
A: There is no admission fee to participate in the Street Festival. You are our guests and we want you to come out and celebrate airport culture with us!
Q: How do I register?
A: Please Visit our registration page - advanced registration online is quick and easy! Or you can register at check-in at the GTAA Administration Building on the day of the event (Saturday, September 15, 2012).
Q: What’s the difference between advanced registration and registering the day-of?
A: Advanced registration is encouraged, but not mandatory. If you pre-register you’ll have less of a wait when you check-in on the day of. It also helps us plan for how many visitors to expect.
DAY OF LOGISTICS
Q: How can I get to the event location?
A: Your Street Festival journey begins at the Greater Toronto Airports’ Authority’s GTAA Administration Building located at 3111 Convair Drive, Mississauga, ON, L5P 1B2. From there, you will need to board our free bus to the event location. Busses will be running to and from the event location from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Q: Is there parking available?
A: Yes, free parking is available at our Administration Building (3111 Convair Drive, Mississauga, ON, L5P 1B2). Space does fill up quickly so carpooling is recommended. From there, free busses will take you to the Street Festival - there is no parking available at the specific event location.
Q: How will I know where to park when I arrive?
A: There will be signs on the road to direct you to the parking lot. When you arrive, there will also be volunteers in orange vests directing you to the available parking.
Q: How do I get there if I don’t drive?
A: Mississauga Transit or TTC will take you to the corner of Convair Drive and Renforth Drive. From there it is only about a five-minute walk to the GTAA Administration Building parking lot and check-in location.
Q: What can I expect to do at the Street Festival?
A: The Street Festival is a behind-the-scenes look at the airport. There will be plenty of activities available for the whole family to enjoy. Meet the people who keep Toronto Pearson running smoothly, see some of our airport equipment up close, drive alongside aircraft on our guided Airside Bus Tours (airport security check will be required – please bring government-issued photo identification) and more. Don’t forget about the kids’ zone, food tent, and live entertainment on our community stage!
Q: What happens if it rains the day of the Street Festival?
A: Light rain won’t stop the Street Festival, but if there is more severe weather, the event will be cancelled and will not be rescheduled in 2012.
Q: What happens if there is a thunderstorm the day of the Street Festival?
A: If there is lightning or any unsafe weather conditions, the Street Festival will be cancelled. If there is a cancellation, it will be communicated day of on the Toronto Pearson Street Festival website and through Facebook and Twitter. If thunderstorms are forecasted, please be sure to check the website before you come. Unfortunately, the event will not be rescheduled in 2012.
PARTICIPATION
Q: Since this is a free admission event, is there anything I could have to pay for?
A: Admission is free, but there will be food available on site for purchase. Please remember that our vendors only accept cash.
Q: Can we bring a stroller or a wagon?
A: Yes - we want your whole family to join us! There will be many activities for children to participate in.
Q: Can I bring my bike or roller blades to the Street Festival?
A: Please only foot traffic at the event location as roller blades or bicycles can be hazardous for other people enjoying the event.
Q: Is this event wheel-chair accessible?
A: Yes, we encourage everyone to come participate and we will accommodate all physical needs.
Q: Can I bring my dog to the Street Festival?
A: Unfortunately, the only animals permitted are service animals. Dogs can be a hazard to aircraft if they accidentally get loose on the airfield.
Q: Is there anywhere to store my personal belongings on site?
A: There will be no area to store things, so bringing only the personal belongings you can carry on your body is recommended. You may bring a backpack or waist pouch to store your valuables on your body. However, if you participate in the airside bus tour you will be subject to a standard airport security check. Otherwise, there is always the option to lock your belongings in your vehicle.
Q: Can I bring my camera?
A: Yes, please take photographs! We encourage you to post pictures while you’re at the event –use our Twitter hash-tag #PearsonStreetFest or tag us on Facebook.
Q: How long will we be at the Street Festival?
A: You are welcome to come and go as you please. There will be a 45 minute entertainment show at 11 a.m., repeated again at 1 p.m. Most people spend 2-3 hours at the event. There will be busses running throughout the day to transport you back to the GTAA Administration Building.
Q: Will there be food/drinks available?
A: There will be plenty of food for you to purchase at the Street Festival! Please remember that our vendors accept cash only.
Q: Am I able to smoke while I’m at the Street Festival?
A: Smoking is not permitted on the inside of the airport perimeter, particularly due to creating debris on the airfield. There is a designated smoking area available at the check-in site at the GTAA Administration Building that you may use before or after the event. You will not easily be able to come and go to this area once you’re on the airfield site.
Q: What if I need to use the washroom during the Street Festival?
A: There will portable toilets available around the perimeter of the event. Wheelchair accessible toilets will be available as well.
Q: What type of entertainment will there be?
A: There will be a variety of performances that include dancing and singing. There will be bouncy castles, interactive games and airport-related activities, including some airplanes to tour.
Q: How long will we have to wait to tour the aircrafts?
A: We cannot predict how long the wait will be since we don’t know how many people will be attending, but there will be signage and volunteers in the area to inform you of the wait times.
Q: When are the entertainment shows?
A: The entertainment show will be at 11 a.m. for 45 minutes and the same show will be repeated at 1 p.m.
Q: How long is the bus ride to and from the event location?
A: The bus ride from check-in at the GTAA Administration Building to the event location is approximately 10 minutes in each direction. If it is a busy time there may be a bit of a wait for the next available bus.
Q: What do I need to do to sign up for the airside guided bus tours?
A: As we are entering an active airfield, there are necessary procedures to follow:
- Guests ages 16 and older require valid government issued photo ID.
- Guests under the age of 16 require some proof of identification and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on the tour.
- All guests must sign a liability waiver in order to participate in the guided bus tour. Parents and guardians will sign for guests ages 15 and younger.
Q: How long will I have to wait to sign up for an airside guided bus tour?
A: Airside guided bus tours fill up very quickly. We have dedicated three busses to the tours. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer advance tour registration. If you are interested, please be sure to sign up for a scheduled tour time as soon you arrive at the event location.
Q: How long are the airside guided bus tours?
A: Each airside guided bus tour is approximately 45 minutes.
Q: Can we take photos on the airside guided bus tours?
A: Yes, please bring your cameras on the bus tours and take lots of pictures! Please keep in mind the bus will be moving, so capturing some shots might be tricky. Again, we would love it if you could share your pictures using our Twitter hash-tag #PearsonStreetFest or by tagging us on Facebook!
Q: What is FOD and why is it so important that I do not litter?
A: FOD stands for Foreign Object Debris – also known as garbage. At the event location, which is on an active airfield, we need to be very conscious of FOD. If garbage or paper were to blow away it could create a hazardous situation and millions of dollars in damage. We will have plenty of garbage bins on site. It is very important that you throw your garbage in these bins.
