TORONTO— At approximately 8:30 am on April 16, an unauthorized individual was found onboard an aircraft at Toronto Pearson. The aircraft was isolated in a remote area of the airport and a K9 sweep for explosives was conducted. The aircraft was determined to be safe and was released to the airline – COPA Airlines.
Peel Police lead the investigation into the actions of the individual in question. Charges have been laid against the individual. Peel Police can speak to the charges specifically.
The GTAA takes this incident very seriously – any breach of security cannot be tolerated.
We will continue to work with Peel Police and Transport Canada as we review our security programs.
We will not release specific details of the incident. Any time that a security issue takes place, it is unacceptable and we are in the process of reviewing our security policies, procedures and systems to minimize future risk.
